SHOCKING FATALITY.
TWO MEN KILLED. \ «. • .. : FRIGHTFULLY MANGLED BY , TRAIN. . . By Telegraph—Press Association. TIMARU, Last Night. As the second express fijom tlx© sotith ' approached the Temuka station this evening, a horse and dray with two men in it, was standing near Buxton's store, in the railway yard. The whistle of the engine caused the horse to bolt, and it ran across the line in front of the train. The' engine struck the wheels and smashed the dray to matchwood, and carried the two men .a short distance, fioth the occupants of the dray were mangled frightfully. ■ - They i W.ere . both residents of Temuka, John McArlaffe/a labourer, and: ;William Snell, a, retired farmer, with a grown-up family. Both are old residents and highly respected. The Temuka station .yard is admitted to be very dangerous. This is the fifth fatality, and efforts to have the public crossing mide near the site of the. fatality will be renewed.
