THE GOAL SUPPLY.

IS A STRIKE PROBABLE? By Telegraph — Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 30. A director of: a coal, company,- interviewed as to the reported accumulation of coal by large consumers against a possible colliery strike, said trouble was coming as soon as the miners had got all they could through the Arbitration Court. They were now cancelling the registration of unions, and shifting for themselves.' Mr Alison, managing director of the Devonport Ferry Company, said he knew of nothing definite as to an impending strike, but it was significant that so many coal unions were cancelling their registration. His company laid in 2000 tons as an emergency supply. Mr Semple, president of the Miners' Federation, said the unions were cancelling registration to be free of responsibility to the court, in the event of a strike taking place. The Hon. J. A. Millar' said that, personally, he knew of no strike impending, but in view of preparing for an emergency, the Railway Department was keeping in hand sixteen weeks' supply, representing 80,000 to 100,000 tons of coal. Asked if he did not think the cancellation of registration was significant, he said no doubt it was, but he was not prepared to discuss the matter.
