LAND REFORM.

<*- One of the leading plan' s in the recent election in the Mother Country was that of land reform. The policy of the Liberals, Tike that of their namesakes in New Zealand, is to increase the number of small tenancies, while the Socialist idea is to secure State ownership and land nationalization. The Unionists, on the other hand, desire to multiply the number of small holders, and to utilize the credit of the State to assist them on their way. They wisa to encourage the small man to become an owner, and to provide him with the facilities for, doing so. Unhappily, the question of land reform was made ar. :, ior issue in the election, and the statesmanlike policy of the Unionists will require to.be deferred until some future date. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to watch the attitude of the Liberals, who will be dependent so largely upon the Socialistic element in the House.
