AMUSEMENTS.
NELLIE STEWART. This evening will witness a memorable occasion—tho re-appearance and "good-bye" of "Australia's Idol," Nellie Stewart. The first is a feaure to rejoice over—the second brings deep regret. No other artiste of our time has so thoroughly captured the hearts and affections of her own folk. Nellie Stewart's name stands for far more than that of clever actress—it represents the love and regard that a whole-hearted people offer spontaneously to a lovable woman. To quote the ".Immortal Bard," "we shall never look upon her like again," but to-night offers the opportunity to local play-goers to give Nellie Stewart the greeting she deserves. "Sweet Nell of Old
Drury" is a play of enduring memory, the fact of its seven years' continuous run and unprecedented success in Australasia and America attesting to its worth. No other historical drama so well combines powerful situations with brilliant dialogue and winsome charm. The success of the piece is mainly due to Nellie Stewart's pourtrayal of the irresistible Orange Girl, but the, other characters, too, more than help the general effect, notably Air Harcourtßoatty's King Charles tne Second. The gorgeousnoss of the costumes and the beauty of the scenery will be recollected, and to-night's production will find no single detail absent. The curtain rises at 8 precisely, and tho audience are requested to be seated prior to that hour ,as the opening melodies of the strong orchestra are a special feature.
