AMUSEMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

No better testimony to the popularity of the Thompson-Payne Pictures could be found than the crowded condition of ti.e Foresters' Hall last evening, on the occasion of the usual change. The pictures provect highly attractive, each film being of the richest order, and making up an entertainment of the best kind. A strikingly well-enacted romance, "Mazeppa," relates the thrilling experience of a young Tartar chief, who, captured by the Poles, becomes enamoured of Olinska, a beautiful Polish maid. He joins the ranks of the Poles, but as he is discovered fighting a duel with Olinska's unwelcome suitor, he is sentenced to be tied to the back of a wild horse. The horse, a magnificent white charger, is seen to be thrown by ropes and then Mazeppa is tied upon its back. Of the other dramas, "Tlu* Little Angel of Luck" is a very, pathetic story splendidly told, and "The Girl of Triple X Ranch" is an exciting picture of the days when cattle stealing was rife in America. "The Lion Hunt" was a remarkable film, the "kill" taking place close to the cinematograph camera. Two exceptionally fine sceuics were, tiios? showing the Italian cavalry, exercising, and a trip from Norway to New York. A good budget of comics was shown. The programme will be repeated this evening. A special holiday matinee will be given on Saturday afternoon.
