THOUGHT HE WAS BEINU I SHADOWED. | While suffering from the. delusion that he was being persecuted, and that he was being shadowed by detectives, a telegraphist, Alfred Cam- ; bridge, 35 years of age, lately living in Bridge street, Hurstville, seated himself in an outhouse on the afternoon of the 9th inst., and holding a hand mirror before his face cut his throat. Cambridge, who had been employed by the Government at Bathurst, had been suffering from varicose veins, end about a-.month ago] obtained leave to come to Sydney.He was attended to by Dr. Fiaschi at Lister Hospital, Darlirighuist. He left that institution about a week ago, and since then has lived with his wife and four children at his bro-ther-in-law's house at Hurstville. He was able to move about without trouble, and yesterday afternoon visited Packham'a bakery in Bridge street, Hurstville. He remained there for a few minutes, and during that time appeared to be m his usuaj[ state of mind. When hereturned home, however, he complained to his wife that the medicine the doctor had prescribed for.him was troubling him. He then placed his arm around her and kissed her. He spoke to the baby also, and kissing it went into the yard. About a quarter of an hour later Mrs Cambridge, thinking her husband had been away too Jong, went to the outhouse, and ?aw h'.m sitting !on a box with his throat cut. A i blood-stained, razor and a hand-mirror were close to the body. Dr. McLeod, of Hurstville, was sent for, and he assured the police that Cambridge was dead. Dr. Fiaschi is in Newcastle at present, but an extract from his diary read: "Has delirium of persecution; thinks that the detectives are shadowing him."
