——♦ Mr Henry Samuel Hadfield, eldest son of the late Bishop Hadfield, died in Wellington on Monday. Mr John J. Hbare is mentioned as a probable candidate for the Geraldine seat in the Opposition interest. The Town Clerk (Mr W. T. Mansfield) will form one of a party who will spend the Christmas holidays at Castlepoint. i
Branchman A. K. Johnston has been appointed to represent the Masterton Fire Brigade at the Hokitika Conference in March, 1911. A cable received last night announced the death of Senor Anibal Cruz, the Chilian Minister at New York.
Mr E. Pragnell, of the Stonehenge Lodge of Druids, has been elected to represent the Lodge at the next Conference at Auckland in February next.
A cable message received last night stated that the Duke of, Connaught and party have arrived at Tenerifre, from South Africa. Among recent callers at the High Commissioner's office in London was Mr Rupert J. Sutton, of Masterton.
The death is announced of M.n MeKerrow, wife of Mr James McKerrow, formerly Surveyor-General and Chairman of the Land Purchase Board. Mr E. W. Porritt, S.M., who is well-known in the Wairarapa, has tendered his resignation to the Government, having accepted a partnership in a legal practice at Ohinemuri and Waihi.
Mr R. Geddes, a representative of an English firm engaged in the meat industry, paid a visit to the Waingawa freezing works yesterday, in company with Mr J. C. Cooper.
The death occurred at Porewa, Rangitikei, on Sunday, of Mrs A. Cockburn, relict of the- late Mr Alexander Cockburn, m her <2i\ct. vcar. Her death removes; from the district one of its oldest-settlers, she having lived in Rangitikei for 52 years. Born in Sutlierlandsinre, Scotland, in 1839, she came to NewZealand in 1840' with her father, the late Mr -Alexander Sutherland, who took up land at Lyall's Bay, Wellington. Mr and Mrs A. M. Wilkinson, of Tauherenikau, celebrated the anniversary of their golden wedding last week." Oii account of Mrs Wilkinson not being in the best of health the proceedings (states a Feather--ston correspondent) had to be of a; very quiet' .nature. Notwithstanding' this, however, a large number of "people went out to Tauherenikau to pay their respects and offer congratulations. The family consists of two sons and one daughter and fourteen grandchildren.
