RAILWAY FACILITIES.
__ + The Railway Department has a peculiar method of transacting business, especially when that business affects the Wairarapa. The holiday arrangements for the Christmas holi.days are an illustration' of how the convenience of the public can be considered. A monster Friendly Societies' picnic is being held at Pigeon Bush. A guarantee of £lB was required for train fac.ities. An important sports meeting is advertised for Masterton for the following day. A guarantee of £4O was demanded for a special train. A request that the afternoon train be delayed for an hour or two, for the convenience of Southern visitors, was absolutely de- I clined. The first and only consideration of the Department liow-a-days appears to be revenno. The head of the great Government railway concern appears to be - overcome with i an insatiable greed. He is out for ' the "dollars" every time.
