FAT STOCK MARKET.
(To the Editor.) Sir—l was pleased to read your article in to-day's issue, suggesting the establishment of a fat stock market in Masterton. I am convinced that the farmers are collectively losing hundreds of pounds every year through being without such a market. At the sale on Wednesday 1 waa told of one man receiving 12s 6d for lambs which had only just been put on the rape, and which could not have gone more than 301ba. His neighbour's lambs had been three weeks on the rape, were a better breed of sheep, and averaged nearly 401 bs. Yec, he received only 12a 6d fcr his fats. 'lhere is something radically wrong in this. Mr William Ferry, I believe, mentioned some time ago at the A. and P. Association the necessity for a fat s'ock market. 1 would suggest that he convene a special meeting of members of the Association to discuss the question. If we had a strong branch of the Farmers' Union in the district, they could take the matter up.—l am, etc., FARMER. Longbush, December 15th, 1910.
