CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
_ CHKISTMAS FETE. Despite the "i inclement weather, a large number were present at the Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium last evening, the attraction being a Christmas Fete, in conjunction with the Masterton Congregational Church. The function from every point of view was a decided success. 'Many musical and vocal items were contributed to the programme, comprising the following:—Mr Hunn, "Long Shoreman;" Mra Redman, "Darby and Joan;" Mrs Ogilvy, "Sunshine and Rain;" Miss Hodge, "The Valley by the Sea;" Mr Clayson, "Out on the Deep;" Mr Branson, "My Little Irish Girl" (encored); Mr Young, "Heather and the Heath;" Mr Redman, "Thou and I;" recitative?: Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, "A Firkin of Butter" (encored); Mr G. H. Sykes; "Nothing to Wear;" Mr Hebenton, "A Step Ladder." Mr Hutchinson, accompanied by Miss Hodge, also rendered the trombone solo, "The Holy City." > Later in the evening a number of competitive events were decided, including potato racing, hat trimming, nail driving, and guessing competitions.
The hall was very effectively decorated with flowers and greens. The various stallholders were—Christmas Tree, Mrs J. Kitchener; Flower Stall, Mrs Green and Miss Hodge; Lollie Stall, Mrs H. Welch and Miss H. Hodge; Ice Cream, Mr M. Wilkes; Produce Stall, Mrs Redman and Mra Day; Bran Tubs, Misses G. looby and E. Thompson; Refreshment, Mesdames Joy and Hodge; Raspbeirieß and Strawberries and Cream, Miss F. Redman.
