BEATIFYING THE PARK.

MEETING OFJCOMMITTSE. ; The Masterton Public Park Beautifying Committee met in the Borough Council Chajmbers last night, a good attendance feeing present. On the motion of t £he Mayor, Mr J. rM. Coradiiie/'secoßded by Mr j. C\! Ewington, Mr, A'.'McLeod was unanimously elecited Deputy Chairman "' of the L'ommj't'tee, the Mayor being - Chairman by' virtue of his:of6ce. " " A letter" was received • from the« Masterton Trust Lands Trust, notifying that Mr T. WaggJ had been appointed the Trust's representative on the Executive L'omnrittee. Mr J. C. Ewington moved, and Mr J. Pryor seconded," that Mr Lamb be appointed secretary to the Committee. Mr J. C. Ewington suggested that one of the best ways of assisting to raise funds for the beautifying of the Park was the holding of a floral fete. Mr Pryor thought that a floral fete and short sports meeting early in February, with an evening entertainment, should be held, and moved in that direction. The motion was seconded by Mr Ewington. Several present spoke in favour of the motion. . ... On the motion of Mr J. Coradine, junr., it was decided that the floral fete and sports meeting and evening entertainment be held on the first Thursday in February. It was unanimously decided that Mr F. J. Hunn be appointed supervisor for the day's gathering. ' Mr W. R Jackson moved that three committees be set up to draw up the programmes for the contests, competitions and amusements department of the fete. The following were appointed to the various committees:—Contest Committee—Messrs J. Pryor, chairman, J. C. Ewington, J. C. Pauling, E. R. B. Daniel!, J. Coradine, junr., McEwen, Crosbie, A. Wilton, Captain Jenkins. Morris and Supt. Jenkins; Competitions Committee, Messrs W. H. Jackson, Candy, chairman, Pryor, Branson, Georgeson, Levien, Biggs, Morris; Evening Entertainment Messrs Temple, Elliott, Branson, Cook, Pickering, Jenkins, J. Dixon, Blackman, Fowler, Wagg, W. J. Welch, Biggs, Candy, Murray, R. Brown, &oble-CampbelJ, Snowball, Z. M- Hoar, Ewington, chairman, J. B, Moodie.

It was proposed that a finance and advertising committee, consisting of the Mayor, the To-vn Clerk and the chairmen of the different commit-tees-be set up.—This was agreed to.
