The Prime Minister left Wellington/on a holiday visit to Rotorua yesterday. « Bishop Cleary, of Auckland, i» a "passenger, by the steamer < Omrah, which has arrived at Fremantle from London.
The Very Rev. Dean McKenna, who has been assisting .-at the public celebrations in connection with St. Patrick's College in Wellington, returned to Masterton yesterday.
A Press Association message from Auckland states:—Mr James P. Kalanger, headmaster of the Winchester School, South Canterbury, has been appointed instructor of agriculture to the Auckland Education Board.
According to a West Coast exchange, Mr Samuel Wills, who passed away at Reef ton Hospital from senile decay on Friday night last, in his 78th year, was cousin, of Wills, the sole survivor of the Burke and Will* Australian exploration? expedition.
The following appointments have been made by the Wellington Education Board:— Headmaster, Martinborough School, Mr J. K. Edie, of the Normal School; head teacher, D'alefield, Mr Davidson; head teacher, Makuri, Mr F. J. Beechey; head teacher, Parkvale, Mr Nightingale.
A quiet wedding was celebrated at the residence of Mrs J. Graham in Masterton yesterday afternoon, when Miss Graham, daughter of the late Mr John Graham, was united in matrimony with Mr Bryan Badger, son of Mr Badger, solicitor, of Christchurch. Mr Ronald Badger acted as best man, and Miss Winnie Evernden, a niece of the bride, aa bridesmaid.
The Rev. Father Charles Graham, S.M., who is at present Professor of Mathematics at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, has been appointed Rector of the Catholic High School, which is to be established •by the Marist Fathers in Christchurch, about tlie beginning of next year. Father Graham, who is about thirty years of age, was horn in Christchurch and educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and St. Mary's School at Meanee, and' then took his University degree at Victoria College, Wellington.
A very pleasant gathering took place at the residence of Mr Roderick McKcnzie, of the Upper Plain, on Tuesday last. The sixtieth birthday of Mrs McKcnzie, who has been a great friend to the settlers of the district, was made the occasion of a surprise party and the presentation of a valuable piece of silver' plate. At the same time Mr McKenzie, who is seventy years of age, was presented with a silver-mounted pipe. About twenty ladies were present, and the presentation was made by Mr Taylforth, who referred to the splendid neighbourly qaialities of both Mr and Mrs McKenzie. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the ladies of the district.
