ELECTION POLEMICS. HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED. Received December 14, 8.5 a.m. LONLON, December 13. Mr P. 0. simmonds, who was. a candidate fur in the East .seat, lor which Mr W, Wedgwood Berm wai returned,- at the general election in January last, has been awarded £SOOu damages in an action against the Daily Chronicle for alleged Jibei. Received December 14, 10 a.m. LONDON, December 13. The statement complained of in Mr Simmonds's libel action were thai the GhiO'iicie, in support of Mr Benn's candidature, alleged that Mr Simmonda helped to throw three thousand people out of work, and had thrice voted against tie feeding of poor children. A PEER'S DAUGHTER'S CASE. Keceivtd December 14, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, December 13. The Bon, Alexandar Louvima Knollys, daughter of Lord Knollys, G.C.8., has been awarded five hundred pounda damages' against the newspaper John Bull, for alleging that she had eloped to the Continent.
