ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVINGS.

MISS, HAMPTON'S SCHOOL. The pupils of Miss Hampton's school held their annual picnic and prize giving at Te Whiti yesterday, when a large number of'parents and friends of the scholars also attended. During the afternoon games were indulged in, and tea was served under the trees in the bush. At a suitable period, Rev. H. Watson made presentations on behalf of the girls as follows:—Miss L. E. Hampton, silver candlestick; Miss Muriel Hampton, silver smelling salt; Miss Hampton, silver scent bottle. The present tations were responded to by the Misses Hampton. Mr Richard Beetham, in a very neat speech, presented the prizes as follows: ... UPPER SCHOOL. Good work: Gladys Quaintreli (Mrs Dagg's prize.) General knowledge: Gladys Quaintreli and Bessie McKenzie. English, composition and spelling: Rita Hampton. , History! and Geography: Bessie McKenzie (Mrs Quaintreli's prize.) Writing: Marion McKenzie. Painting: Gladys Quaintreli (Mr Fenton's prize.) Drawing: Rita Hampton (Mrs Graham's prize.) Endeavour: Nora Dagg (Miss Hilda Beetham's prizfc), Keitha Pikett, Aileen Judd, Helma Summer. Perseverance in spelling: Christina Hosking. Good work and good concaefc: Marjorie Daniell 1, Marjorie Graham 2. Music: (Miss Hampton's prizes), Nora Dagg 1, Keitha Pikett and Helma Kummer 2. LOWER SCHOOL. ST. BRIDE'S CONVENT. The annual break-up and prize giving, by pupils of St. Bride's Convent, was held in St. Patrick's schoolroom last evening, and was by far the most successful function of its kind yet held in connection with this valuable scholastic institution. The programme was a most enjoyable one, and judging from the frequent applause met with the eharty approval of the crowded audience. The first part of the programme consisted of the following items:— Piano solo, (two pianos), Misses McKenna and Hanify; violin solo, Miss Hanify; vocal solo, Miss C. McLachlan; piano solo, Miss Hanify; piano duet, Misses Fuller and McKenzie. The second part of the programme was taken up with the performance of the operetta "The Magic Ruby," by th© pupils of the Convent. This piece'was'excellently acted, imd all those takingpart acquitted themselves most creditably. The cast of characters was as follows:—Nellie O'Neill (the General's adopted daughter), Miss Coralie Smvthson; Elsie, Miss Symesi; Violet, Miss D. ffones; Rosej Miss Nelson; Dorothy, Miss Brooks; Ma-jor-General Bangs, V.C., Miss Jessie Milne; Patrick O'Flaherty Terence McGee (his servant, miss. J. Taylor; Harry Lisle (clerk in the Government offices), Miss C. McKenzie; the Rajah of Rajahpore, Miss U'UonneU * Ah Sin (ins umnose servant), iya.-&.« Hanify; natives, -autcn tfirls, Jropulace, the Misses Cress (V), Jtlodgins, McCorasky, McKenzie, i'arsons, fcralvin, Page, Hodgins; Plectra (tne Goddess of .uight), Miss M. .Bunny; Raj, the Sakshasma (a bad Spirit), Miss* McKenna; Spirits of Light: the Misses Taylor, Dwyer, Bunny and O'Leary; Imps of Darkness: the Misses Page, Bunny (2), Duggan and Mitchel. After the performance Mr J. M. (Mayor) presented the prizes to the successful prize winners, and in a very appropriate speech referred to the good work the Sisters were doing, and to the excellent work of the students.
