LANSDOWNE ENTERTAINMENT.
A most enjoyable entertainment in I aid of the Lansdowne School Library was provided by the pupils of the school before a house crammed to the doors, on Thursday evening. The "Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" j (Miss M. Morrison) introduced the audience to many of her long lost children, comprising most of the heroes and villains known to childhood. ' A number of very small dren delivered themselves of verses referring to their toy's, acquitting themselves .creditably. Close on their heels came "Aladdin" (H. Jarrett), with hia wonderful lamp; about which he enlightened those present. The Daisies, who looked charmingly dainty, sang tunefully a little song accompanied by appropriate and graceful actions. Aladdin's long lost sister, Miss Muffitt (Doris Hollings) j next made her appearance, and with | him sang a duet. Mistress Mary j (Roy King) distributed flowers from /her garden, and disclaimed the contrariness'usually attributed to her. Eleberterton immediately became "en rapport" ■ with his audience, presenting .in breezy - style Sinbad the Sailor. His crew, including a perky midshipmite, backed him up in true nautical style. The Rainbow dairies : each recited prettily her own particular function in the scheme of nature, while Marjory Daw (Norma Boys) and Dorothy Draggletail (Ada Evans) successfully tilled their parts. Bluebeard (E. Piatt), who asserted the stories circulated about him to be as false as his beard, and Robinson Crusoe (C. Golf), accompanied . by Man Friday (A. Pullfofd) fcdolc their parts with zest and enthusiasm.: , Cinderella and her two spiteful si&- [ ters (how no longer spiteful), and 1 AH Baba and the now honest rem-j nant of the robber band, were very j attractive. Goody Two Shoes sang | her song in good style. Two features j - of the performance were the game of blind man's buff and the tug-of-war between the thieves and Sinbad's sailors. Mr Hale (chairman of the School Committee), in a neat speech congratulated the staff upon the results of their enthusiasm. Mr Drummond, headmaster, briefly replied. Very creditable footlights were provided by means of Pickering's Aerogen gas. Mrs A. Cooper, L.R.A.M., A.J.C.L., played the accompaniments in finished style.
