ATPEAL FOR HELP. Messrs I'. L. IJollings, J. McGregor, senr., Dr Pryor, and Mr A. Snowball, waited upon the Masterton J rust Lands Trustees last evening, and asked for financial assistance for trie gymnasium recently established by the Y.M.C.A. Mr Holling3 spoke at some length in support of the application. He pointed out that the gymnasium, wliich had been established by the Y.M.C.A. was open lo all sections of the community. Physical training was an important matter, and Mr Hollings urged that it was deserving of the support of the irust as a body. The gymnasium was in charge of one of the best instructors in the Dominion. The deputation would like the Trust to forego the rent to the Association, which would amount to f about £3O per year. Mr James McGregor urged that the gymnasium was of a highly educational character, and pointed out that the Trust was formed for educational purposes. He understood that there were about ninety young people receiving instruction. In answer to Mr Snowhall stated that it was proposed to charge only a small fee for the use of the gymnasium. « / Mr Lton asked if an endeavour had been made to amalgamate with the Masterton gymnasium, or to purchase any of its appliances. Mr Snowball otated that the old gymnasium managers had been approached, but nothing had been done.' Mr W. H. Jackson jointed out that the Y.M.C. \. institution had been largely responsible for the Masterton Gymnasium Club going under. Dr Pryor urged the importance of physical training, to keep our people abreast of those of other nations* In answer to a question, the Chairman stated that :the Trustees had voted £lO pear year to the old Gymnasium Club. After some further discussion, the deputation thanked the lrustees,"and withdrew. Mr Jackson subsequently stated that the" only thing the Trust could do was to make a grant to the gymnasium. He moved that provision be made in the estimates of next year for a.grant to the gymnasium of the Y.M.C.A., pro\ided that the lrustees are satisfied with the work done. lvir D. Caselberg seconded.
