RADIUM FOR HOSPITALS.
The Palmerston North Hospital Board has decided to expend a sum of £6OOO in procuring a supply of radium, to be .used: in : cancer and sxin'diseases! For some'time> past, Dr W. H. Hosking, of Masterton, has., been, doing good work - with radr iuiri, which he '■ has prpcured at; his own expense. It is just--a questidri whether the local Hospital Committee should not follow the example of Pahnerston, and procure a small supply, .so that the benefits may be, extended to all classes. -In a casej of this sort, it is almost a: matter which might be taken up by the Government. Thousands of pounds have been expended out of the 4 oohsolidat-; ed fund to relieve sufferers, from tub-' erculosis. Why should,; not the victims of the dreaded cancer be similarly treated? It has been demonstrated by Dr Hosinng,- beyond the ; shadow of doubt, uiat cases of external cancer may. be by the 1 ; use of radium. <• '; ;■'./.; ■;':'.;•' '-!'■:',■.■ ''.!•
