THE MASTERTON PARK.
The Masterton Boi-ougli Council, which has control of the Public Park,; is pursuing a proper course in invit- < ing the general public to co-operate in providing funds for the upkeep of the reserve. It can hardly be expected that the ratepayers will bear the full burden of maintaining this, pleasure-ground. It belongs to the people as a whole, and is a source of 'very great pleasure to those who frequent it. The organization of a ] fete, with which to provide revenue j for the further improvement of the | reserve, will appeal to every branch of athletics> in the town, as it doubt- ■' less will to the general public.' The ' Borough Council would be pursuing a wise course if it were to set up a special Park Committee, with power to add to its number. By this means, the Council might receive the advice and assistance of those who are keenly interested in the beautifying and maintenance of the Parle in ,decent order.
