THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. THE PORTUGAL REVOLT. The new scries of pictures at the Foresters' Hali attracted u large audience last evening. The programme is composed of an interestnig budget of subjects. A series of pictures gives views of Lisbon and the principal streets and buildings, as well as a glimpse of the harbour. Portuguese soldiers and King Manuel are very much in evidence. Among the dramas is one dealing with the invasion of Portugal "by France in 1807. This picture, which Is" entitled "Estrellita," is 1200 feet long, .ancl is an intensely exciting military drama. "Peg Woffington," a film 989 feet in length, is an excellent adaptation of Charles Reade's great novel. The plot, which is probably not well-known to the average picture theatre audience, centres round stage life, and is admirably acted and staged. Another stirring-'story dealing with the stage is an' Edison drama, "Her First Appearance," founded on Davis' • famous novel. There is a'very pathetic vein running through the story, which is perfect in photography ancl acting. Two other splendid subjects are '.'Hamlet," (a Shakespearian drama?, and "The Ranger's Bride (a Wild West tale of a cowboy's marriage). The comic, secnic and topical' studies are splendid, and go to make up ah excellent bill-of-fare, which will bo repeated this evening. The usual children's free matinee will take place to-morrow afternoon.
