MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING. A meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held in Mr R. Brown's office yesterday. There were present Messrs 0. PragnelL (chairman), J. P. Prentice, R. J. White, J. C. Ewington, C. i'earce, and .1. H. Pauling. An apology for absence was received from Mr Simpson. The- seal of the Board was affixed to ail assignment of lease of the old fire station, to the Druids' Lodge, and to the agreement between the Borough Council and the Board for the electric fire' alarm installation. It was decided to purchase two horses for the fire engine, and also to procure a clock for the watch room, also a desk, and to arrange for fixing gas jets to the engine, so as to keep the water in the boiler warm. A committee reported with regard to the custodian, recommending tliat the custodian be paid £2 per week, with free quarters and lighting, and to give his whole time to the work, and that a schedule of his duties be prepared bv the committee, the appointment to be offered to the present custodian. The report was adopted. The report was adopted. It was decided to call the architect's attention to the fact that the ringing of the firebell has Tie en reported as not being satisfactory. The Hastings Fire Board wrote asking the Board to let them have the plans of the new building, as they are proposing to build.
