CARTERTON.
Mr W. W. Hercock, trainer of the well-known trotter, John hj., met with a nasty accident.the other morning. It appears that he was giving the horse a trial on the Moroa racecourse, when, at the top of the straight, the horse stepped into a rabbit-burrow and fell, throwing the rider, who fractured his collar-bone and shoulder blade, and bruised his ribs rather badly. The accident was not caused by the hobbles breaking, as has been stated, for there was not a single strap broken. Mr C. Hercock, owner of John H., who fortunately was present, procured a vehicle from Mr Kempton, and the rider was conveyed to Dr. Bey's surgery, where the injuries were attended to. Latest inquiry shows that the -sufferer is progressing satisfactorily.
