FRIENDLY SOCIETY PATIENTS.
AND IHE~HOSPITAJi§. | At the meeting in Masterton yes-,! terday of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, a letter was read from the Pahiatua Hospital Committee, asking for the foard's approval of a proposal that members of the Woodville Forestern' Lodge be admitted to the Pahiatua Hospital on of 10s per week, instead of 255, provided that the Lodge pays £5 per year to the Hospital, Mr D. Crewe moved that the action of the Pahiatua Committee be approved. He pointed out that the Committee had lost nothing by its arrangement with Woodville. A letter was read from Mr S. Bolton, stating that the arrangement had worked satisfactorily in the past. l\lr Fisher seconded the resolution of Mr Crewe, pro forma, but contended that a very bad precedent would be established by giving concessions to Friendly Society patients. The doctors might Eaddle the Board with a very heavy responsibility. Mr Ewington agreed with the contention of Mr Fisher. He did not think that Friendly Society patients should be given a concession. These patients were, usually, well able to pay the full charges of the Hospital. * The Chairman pointed out that Friendly Society patients received £1 per week, besides medical attendance, and they should be well able to pay the full amount. There were concession tickets issued . for the benelit of shearers and others. Other members having similarly expressed themselves, Mr D. Crewe replied. The motion approving the action of the Pahiatua Committee was lost on the voices.
