A quiet wedding was celebrated in St. Matthew's Church yesterday byRev. H. Watson, when Mr Charles Youle, of Eketahuna, son of Mr T. T. .Youle, of Eketahuna, was married to Miss Annie Seymour Thompson, of Masterton. The bride was attended by her two sisters as bridesmaids. A reception was subsequently held at Rankin's tea rooms.

Devonport was appointed delegate to th& : Annual Convention to be held in j New Plymouth early next year. .Tlio Nelson Mail reports the death of' Mr Hemingway Firth, a resident of Nelson for nearly fifty years, and formerly on the Nelson Town Schools Committee for several years. The late Mr Firth came to New Zealand in tho early clays, and was at the Wakamarina, Cullensville, and Hokitika gold rushes. He was also in the Mackenzie country and Ashburton. Captain Peter M'lntyre, of the Stormbird, who has been appointed harbour master and pilot at Wangan/ui, in succession to Captain Irvine, "wio :is'. retiring: after 32 years' \ service, will take up his new duties on January Ist. During the fourteen years he has been running into Wanganui Captain M'lntyre has entered the port no fewer that 1400 times, and without a mishap. The Eketahuna Express says that the death occurred somewhat suddenly at Newman, on Sunday morning, of Mr Thos. Pawson, father of Mrs H. Pet-rick,• aged 68 years. During the early part of the week deceased had been medically attended for dry pleurisy, and on Sunday morning he felt well enough to leave his bed. After being up some time, however, he complained of feeling un- | well and was taken to his bedroom where he shortly afterwards expired, death being due to heart disease. Deceased had been in New Zealand about thirty years, the greater portion of which time was spent in South Canterbury. He leaves three married daughters to mourn their loss.
