MASTERTON WATER SUPPLY.
Tho Masterton Borougn Council spent a lot of time last night in discussing the water supply. Many assertions and many suggestions were made. Some Councillors.- • thought that there was a sufficiency of water for all purposes. Others thought that there was not. When the whole business was summed up, it appeared tnat there was £vn abundance of water for all purposes, though some people were using more than their share. The Council' has laid down a policy that meters shall only bo granted for extraordinary services, i.e., services which are paid tor. it would be a mistake to depart from that policy. At the same time, the by-laws dealing with the subject should not be a dead-letter. If people want an extraordinary supply of water, they should be made to pay for it. At present there can be littledoubt that the by-law is being flagrantly broken. The use of water for gardens and lawns is quite permissible, but this privilege should not" be converted into a license.
