RENEWABLE LEASES.
The renewable lease system, which was introduced by the Government •a- year or two back, does not appealto'be "catching on.*" It is a short lease, with a right of re-valuation, and holders of feases-in-perpetuity are permitted to break their bargain with the Crown and exchange for the renewable lease. When it _is stated that for the year ending March 81st last not a single foot of lease-in-perpetuity land was exchanged for renewable leases, it may readily be imagined how popular the hew system is with holders'of Crown leases'.
