SUICIDES AND INSANITY.

During the last week no fewer than six suicides have been 'recorded in New Zealand. In each and every case the Coroner has recorded a verdict of "Suicide, whilst temporarily insane." The. suicidal mania appears to come in cycles. And if each person who suicides is insane, there must, ipso facto, be cycles of insanity. There is a problem here which medical science should set" itself to unravelling. What is the' cause of the suicidal mania which periodically sweeps over the Dominion? Can anything be done to chock it? Are our social conditions in any way responsible ? Can it be attributed to the climate? What is the reason for the terrible outbreaks of self-murder which from time to time shock the community? The problem requires a solution.
