GOVERNMENT EXPERIMENTS. The work of investigation into the "bush disease" up to the present time has been done 011 the lines of gathering as much information as possible on which to base the actual experimental work which it is intended to carry out during the summer. A number of affected animals have been examined post mortem, and specimens 'obtained from them have been subjected to other examinations from every point j of view at the Wallaceville Laboratory. In addition, blood-examina-tions of affected animals have been made on the spot. Mr Aston, the Agricultural Chemist to the Government, has made a large number of analyses of internal organs, muscles, etc.," of affected animals', at tho same time analysing similar portions of the bodies of healthy animals obtained from unaffected districts, in order to ascertain the difference existing. He has also analysed several samples of-soil, hay, grass, etc., from the affected country. Naturally all this has taken some time, as such work must be done with the utmost exactitude in order to be of the best and highest value. Some interesting results have been obtained, and two lines of experimental work ! indicated, though so far it cannot be said that the case of the trouble has been going on, experimental paddocks have been prepared in various parts of the- affected district. Five such paddocks have been selected and fenced, and to these various topdressings will be supplied, and animals placed upon them for the purpose of ascertaining the results obtained from these dressings. A start has been nlade with the experimental work. (■
