WELCOME SOCIAL AT KNOX HALL.
Knox Hail was we]) filled hst eyening, the occasi6n being the welcome on their return from England of the Rev. Mr and Mrs A. T. Thompson. The Kev. L. Thompson, of Carterton, was in the chair. Felicitous speeches were made by the Re®s. Hodge and Olds, and Messrs D. McGregor. J. McGregor, Wingate and Feist. During the evening a programme of music was rendered, and all the items were much appreciated. A pianoforte solo was played by Mr Purcell Webb, and songs were sung by Mrs Ogilvy, Misses I. Feist, Carterton, McKenzie, a«d Messrs Stuart, lbbetson and Hugo. A duet was rendered by Messrs J. Gray and K, Young. i Mr Thompson stated that his trip to the Old Country had proved beneficial in many ways, and he thanked ■ the congregation for the opportunity they had given him of going there, and he hoped his experience would prove of much] benefit to the Knox congregation. Mr Thompson referred in eulogistic terms to the excellent work done by the Rev. Bain Macdonald, and noted the increase in the church- membership during his temporary position of pastor. During the evening the Rev. L. Thompson, Moderator, was presented j with a handsome set, of hair-brushes |in recognition of his services during hid brotherVabsence. .The Hall was tastefully decorated with evergreens and flowers, arid at .the conclusion of. the programme a .plenti'ful ;suppy of refreshments was handed round.
