Councillor Thomas Moss has boon re-elected Chairman of the Eketahuna County Council. Mr lan Simpson is to be the Ward candidate for the Hawke's Bay seat, at the General Election. Mr Dillon, the sitting member, does not intend offering himself for re-election. Mr Bert Skeet, of the Masterton branch of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., has been appointed to take charge of the Martinborough branch, in place of Mr F. J. Read, who retires shortly to take Tip farming pursuits. Rev. A. T. and Mrs Thompson, of Masterton," returned last night from an extended trip to England and the Continent. Both are looking remarkably well after their trip. Mr George Buller, advance representative of the Hamilton, Plimmer and Denniston Company, was in Masterton yesterday, making arrangements for the production of "The Lovers' Lane" and "The Passing of the Third Floor Back," in the Town Hall on December 2nd and 3rd. The death occurred at the Tumut Hospital (New South Wales) cai 7tli November of William Farquhar Paterson, aged 84, an old New Zealand colonist, and a sou of the late Rev. Mr Paterson, of Wellington. Mr Pater son came to Wellington when about the age of fifteen. After reaching manhood the gold fever seized him, and he followed the avocation of his life with, at times, a great deal of success.
Commander Crutchley, R.N., retires from the secretaryship of the Navy League at the end of the present year. Advancing years is the reason of his bidding good-bye to a post that he lias so worthily filled and from'an organisation lie lias done so much to make a significant force , in the Imperial movement. His absence will be regretted by the large number of his oversea correspondents, who have formed a high respect for liis ability, kindliness of / - heart, and unfailing courtesy. Com- • mander Crutchley was for some time in the service of the New Zealand Shipping Company.
A wedding was celebrated at St. Luke's Church, Greytown, recently, when Miss Constance Ethel Keedwell, second daughter of Mr S. Keedwell, of Greytown, was married to Mr William Lancelot Humphries, eldest sou of Mr H. Humphries, also of Greytown. The church was very prettily decorated with flowers. The bride, wlio was given away by her father, wore a white embroidered irobe, and the 'customary .wreath and. veil. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet. Miss Phyllis Keedwell, sister of the bride, and Miss Zilla Humphries, sister of the bridegroom, attended her as bridesmaids. Mr K. Humphries acted as best man, and Mr C. Bicknell as groomsman. A reception was afterwards held at the home of the bride's parents, and ,the usiial toasts honoured.
