THE NAVY LEAGUE EXCURSION.
A PLEASANT TRIP TO WELLINGTON.
An event which had been looked forward to with keen anticipation by the school children all through the Wairarapa for several weeks past, eventuated yesterday, when the Navy, League excursion to Wellington, and the inspection of li.M.S. Powerful took place. The train got away well to time, and the Railway Department are to be complimented upon the excellent manner in which the arrangements were carried out. On arrival at, Wellington, the children, who numbered between eight and nine hundred, were marched to the wharf, where over five hundred boarded the boats and were conveyed to the Powerful, the rest the children spending their time in viewing the sights of the City. His Excellency the* Governor, Lord Islington, was in attendance at the Mission to Seamen's Hall, but as only a limited number of children put in an appearance he did not make his promised speech. The excursionists were treated to an organ recital by Mr Maughan Barnett in the Town Hall, and a display by the Wellington Fire Brigade. The Battalion Band enlivened proceedings during the journey, and gave selections while the children were marching, and also on the boat. After a really enjoyable day's outing, the trainload of tired excursionists returned home at about eleven o'clock.
