"COME BACK!"
Tlie lust for pleasure is as pronounced in'the Old Country as'in New Zealand. It has seized upon the : j people and caused them to abandon every act of citizenship which in-." volves a sacrifice. The effect of this "lust upon the future of the Emjjire is not- difficult to divine. Fortunately there are outspoken men and 1 clergymen who are not afraid to speak out upon the subject. Would that there were more of them! They' are wanted as much in New Zealand as elsewhere. The Rev. Dr Hemphill, of Tipperary, Ireland, had something to say upon the subject recently. He wondered what had come over the young men that they preferred patent-leather boots and spats and I a fortnight's "swelling" at the sea- | side, with a game of billiards every [ evening, to the joys of family life. | "Come back," said Dr Hemphill, : "to the simple life. Learn that true joy'consists in woman's gentle love. This dreary bachelorhood is destroying your life by making you selfish and destroying hers by robbing her of the husband and children God intended for her." He knew that things were dear, and that people expected more luxury thaii their parents had, but these expectations must be discouraged. "For God's sake," he concluded, "pitch away your tobacco, annual outing, your fine clothes, your club, and whatever else makes, such an inroad on your income that you cannot think of holy marriage. It is a glorious thing to be the father or mother of even i the poorest family." I
