SHEARER'S UNION.
REDUCTION IN SALARIES.
At a conference of the Shearers' Unions held last Friday, to consider the question of a reduction of the cost of running the Shearers' Federation, the president explained that at present it cost roughly £9OO or £IOOO nor annum to run. the Federation, and it was felt that so largo an expenditure was not warranted. It was decided that there should be one central office to control the whole of the affairs of the Federation in New Zealand. Mr F. Waddcll was appointed secretary at a salary of 70s per week, and Mr A. M. Laracy was appointed travelling organizing secretary for the Shearers' Union and the Maoriland Worker at 90s weekly. Other alterations were agreed upon, the effect of which will be to reduce salaries totalling £650 to about £350, exclusive of rent, and thus affecting a saving of about £2OO per annum.
