TARATAHI-CARTERTON RACINB
ANNUAL MEETING. That all-important factor towards the success of outdoor gatherings—fine weather—prevailed yesterday, and the attendance of the public at Clareville was large. The course wa:-; in first-class order, and as expected, the times recorded were fast. The secretary, Mr J. B. Bairstow, ably assisted by the officials-'of the Club, carried out the. general arrangements most capably. The racing was decidedly interesting throughout, some of the fields being large. Mr T. Cameron, the starter, has been seen to better advantage, but two of the despatches which were of an uneven nature could be put down to some of the riders not being sufficiently experienced in getting their horses up to the mark at the right moment. There were eight bookmakers doing business, their license fees 'amounting to £'ll4, and the amount put through the totalisator' was .£403."). A pleasing feature of the racing was the absence of any glaringly inconsistent running. After the Wairarnpa Guineas race the members of the Press wevo kindly invited by Mr H. McManaway, owner of Rill, to drink success to the winner. The races were run off punctually to time, thus enabling the visitors from North ample time to catch the first train. Results.—
