WAIKAREMOANA.

The Masterton County Council is not in sympathy with the proposal of the Napier Chamber of Commerce to urge upon the Government the importance of proceeding with .the Waikaremoana electrical - power scheme. Nobody doubts for a moment that sufficient power could be generated at Waikaremoana to serve a vast area of country- The scheme is probably one of the most attractive in the Dominion. Its cost, however, would be enormous,- and this at once prejudices its chances. The people of the Dominion desire that the Government should "hasten slowly"" in this new enterprise. They arc rather afraid of it, and would like to see one of the smaller schemes experimented with before the countryis involved in undertakings of the proportions of Waikaremoana.
