THE LIBEL LAW.

The Government deserves credit for having at last introduced a measure having for its object the reform- of the barbarous libel law which has hung like a sword of Damocles over the heads of the newspaper Press of this Dominion. The measure, as introduced, does not go quite as far as the English law. Still, it removes some of the anomalies and pit- , j falls which bestrew the path of the newspaper of to-day. And for this concession the newspapers will he everlastingly grateful, it is to be hoped that the politician with the sensitive cuticle will not endeavour to obstruct the passage of this useful measure, which has been introduced dangerously late in the session.
