C.J.C. MEETING. SECOND DAY DERBY WON BY DANUBE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRIB-IUHCROH, Last .Might. ■ The Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting was continued to-day, in sultry "weather. The attendance, though large, was not up to Saturday's' record, and the totalisator investments showed a falling off, being £20,439 as against £23,012 last year. Bookmakers' fees totalled £643 10s. The results are:—
Middleton Hurdle Handicap, one mile and threequarters.— Xavier 10.6, 1; Coy 10.8, 2; Gold Bird 10.5, 3. . Also started.—Reumac, Master Paul, Hydrant, Southern Cross, Ringmaii," and Milo. Xavier won by a length,' with Gold Bird threequarters of a length away third. Time, 3min. 17sec. Criterion Handicap, seven furlongs.—Theodore 7.10, 1; Gipsy Belle 7.9, 2; Chief Loehiel 7.9 3. Also started.—Boanerges, Polymorphous, Wimmera, Wauchope, Bliss, Gunboat, Humming Bird, Vice-Admiral, and San Severe Won by half a head. Time, Imin.. 27sec. Epsom High Weight Handicap, six furlongs.—Dearest 9.10, 1; Morecombe 9.0, 2: Obsono 9.10, 3. Also started.—Perle d'Or,. Swimming Belt, War song, Federal, Scotch Plaid, Fasnakyle, Fisticuff, Medallist, Glenspring, Ascalon, Crown Derby, Inspection, Rock Ferry, and Bolt from the Blue. Time, lmin. 15 l-ssec. Derby Stakes (for tb-ree-y£ar-olds), one mile and a half.—Danube 8.10, I; Birkdale 8.10, 2; Countermine 8.5, 3. Also started.—Tribulation. Danube made all the running, and easily stalling off a challenge by Birkdale in the, straight, won by half a length. Time, 2min. 38sec. Juvenile Plate, five furlongs.— Sunburnt 8.7, 1; Miscount 7.5, 2; Peirene 7.9, 3. Also started.—Kolnnoor, Madam Madcap, and Formless. Sunburnt got the best of the start, and won by two lengths: Time, 59 2-ssec. Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a half.—Prime 7.13, 1; Kopu 7.7, 2: John 7.0, 3. Also started— Bridge, Sandstream, Miss Mischief, Ingoda, Outlander, Adjudge and Boutacle. Miss Mischief and Boutade * cut out the- early running, but were batten before the distance was reached. Prime then came through and won by three-parts of a length. Time, 2min. 34 3-ssec.
Enroll Handicap, for two-year-olds), four furlongs.—Culprit 0.1, 1; Query 7.11, 2; Orotava 6:3, 3. Also started—Ortou, Glenvoy, and Pleasure-Bent. Won easily by three lengths. Time, 49 3-ssee. Ashlev Haudieau, six furlongs.— Domino'B.3, 1; Silver Bullet 6.10, 2; Colleen Mary 8.3, 3. Also started.— Elfish, Queen of Spade?, Pilgrim's Way, Direetoire, Bushland, The Cornet, Flambeau, Snsa, Aunt Sally, Aehray, Lilly White, Ideate and NiglitHght. Won. by a length and a half. Time, 1 min. 15 3-ssec.
