CARTERTON.

Mr Frank Parker, an esteemed settler of Belvedere; died at hi 3 residence yesterday morning, at the early age of 49 years. Deceased had been suffering with an attack of bronchitis, and heart failure was the immediate cause of death A widow and family of four girls and two boys are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. The funeral takes place on Wednesday. The Carterton branch of the Wairarapa Kgg Circle this morning despatches 217£ dozen eggs to its agent at Wellington. Mr Purcell Webb's local and Ma;terton pupila give an entertainment here this evening in St. Andrew's Schoolroom. An excellent programme has been prepared, and a beautiful Brinsmead piano has been kindly lent by Messrs MsLeod and Young, agent for Ghas. Begg and Co., for whom Tucker's Book arcade are the local sub agents. Mr H Martin has purchased the cabinetmaking and general furnishing business of Mr i'. W. Foster in High street. KAIPARORO. Mr W, Ihomas, who vas disabled by a severe gash on his leg-, sustined wh'dst bushfalling a few weeks ago, is progressing favourably, and expects to be able to resume his work shortly. On Sunday afternoon the Kev. Pendray, of liketauna, conducted a service in the Schoolroom.

'lhe annual distribution of prizes in connection with the Sunday School aUo took place, and there was a good attendance of scholars and their parents. The teachers of the Sunday School, Mrs Thomas *md Miss B. Lozell deserve "great credit for t'ie way in which they have carried out their work during the year, and the good attendances recorded prove how well the children have responded to their efforts. The County ranger has been especially energetic lately, and as a result animals are rarely to be seen grazing on the roads.

The .senior classes of the local School, accompanied by their teacher, spent a couple of hours at the Cheese Factory on Wednesday morning, and the manager, Mv Met/ami, very courteously showed them over the building, and explained to them the whole process of cheesemaking.
