MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MEETING OP STEWARDS. A meeting of stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present— Messi'3 C. A. Pownall, in the chair, A; J. Welch-, A. Reside, D. Caselberg, U. Donald, J. lorns, A. G. Filmer, P. Dorset, J. Cress, D. McLachlan, W. Cooper, and G. H. Yates. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. F. Vallance, J. Macara and W. Piatt. Mr W. H. E. Wanklyn forwarded a cheque for £lO 6s Gd, being the balance of the amount from the Accident Fund, to be paid to Norman Campbell. A letter was also read from Mr Wanklyn, giving the names of certain bookmakers who had been refused licenses on the second day of the Wanganui Jockey Club meeting. —The secretary stated that some of the bookmakers whose names had been mentioned had applied for licenses at Masterton.

The Thames Jockey Club wrote in reference to the new Gaming Bill, to the effect that the existence of country clubs was threatened, and suggesting concerted action in the matter. The Thames Club also suggested a Racing Club Board, to replace the present Racing Conference. --The secretary stated that Mr D. McLachlan had represented the Mas-terton-Club at a conference of country clubs in Wellington. Mr A. E. Whyte notified that a jockey's license had been granted to L. Morris.

The resignation of Messrs 6. Allen, J. I). Cruickshank and E. H, Spackman from membership were accepted. The secretary waa instructed to institute enquiries concerning certain racing gear alleged to have been lost by an owner, and articles missing from the custodian's cottage. It was decided to pay the secretary out of pocket expenses in visiting race meetings prior to the late meeting, that the question of his remuneration be deferred until after the March meeting, and that he be accorded the thanks of the Club for his successful services.
