GUY FAWKES.

Some three or four hundred .years ago a conspirator named Guy Fawkes made an abortive attempt to translate the members of the British House of Commons to another sphere through the agency of gunpowder. Had he succeeded, "iris name would have been immortallised. But he didn't. And so, a silly English public burns him in effigy every year, and small boys disturb the peace with crackers and gunpowder. It is about time this foolish and dangerous practice were put a stop to. If it were made an offence to sell crackers or other explosives to boys under sixteen years of age, the nuisance would speedily be abated. There is enough buffoonery in life without perpetuating the type which savours of violence.
