"THE PEOPLE'S DAY."

AT THE MANAWATU SHOW. (By Onr Special Reporter.) The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association was again fortunate in having lovely weather for the "People's Day 1 ' of the Spring Show, and was rewarded with an attendance of abont twenty thousand people. As the trains from all directions discharged their loads, the town became quite full, and large crowds filled all the roads leading to the ground. The ring competitions kept a large section ■occupied, while the children found plenty of amusement in the numerous sideshows that filled up a large portion of the ground. The Short Prize, which was awarded this morning, drew the attention of farmers, and large crowds watched the judges at work. Masterton was well represented in the nine awards. Messrs A. and J. Cray, McGregor Bros., W. Rayner, and W. H. Buiek entered, but the hitter's exhibits were not shown. The following competitions were got off during the day:— Ponies' 'Leaping Contest, T. Cameron, Sanson, 1; A. McDougall, Waitima, 2; A. H. Sanson, Ohakea, 3. Harness Horse (style and action), Miss Jessie Campbell's (Brunswick) Aristocrat, 1 ; Mr F. H. Hockens (Feilding) Prince,2; Mr W. D. Watson's (Masterton) Auctioneer 11., 3. Ladies' and Gentlemen's Hacks, T. E. Wanstead 1; Isaac Jefferson (Martoii), 2; L. H. Colliiison (Palmerston), 3. Best Lady Rider, (side saddle), Misses H. M. Taylor and Dunk tied for first place. Best Lady "icier (divided skirts), Miss Grace Robinson and Miss Jessie Angus tied for first place. Best Lady Driver, Mrs F. S. McRae 1, Miss Jessie Campbell 2, Miss Moynihan 3. Championship Jumping, for the Challenge Cup presented by the ladies of Mianawatu.—E. D. O'Rorke's (Auckland) Cloister (last year's winner) 1 ; J. Kenrick's (Levin) Betrayer, 2; Isaac Jefferson's (Marton) Emerald Isle, 3. In this event forty horses competed.
