WAIRARAPA HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Wai- I rarapa Hospital aoj} Charitable Aid ] Board was held on Wednesday in the County Council offices in Masterton, there being present-Messrs E. G. Eton, chairman, J. C. Ewington, T. JMos\ W. Moore, H. Cornelius, R. F. Beetham, D. Crewe, D. Speedy, H. Murray-Jackson, G. Bennett, W Murray, H. Morrison, Welch and F. W. Kummer. Ihe Treasurer reported receipts for the month amounting to £499 The expenditure during the same period had amounted to £575, leaving a credit balance at date of £3303 2s lOd. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read. The Treasurer's report showed a credit baalnce at date of £3240 10s Id. It was resolved to recommend the Board to take advantage of the offer of the Department of Commerce, Agriculture and Tourists concerning the treatment of indigent persons at Government Sanatoria. The Committee recommended that a conference of delegate* from the various contributing authorities comprised in the Hospital district be summoned by the Health Department for the purpose of discussing the question of constituting the Board a local authority for the purposes of section 83 of the Hospitals andjChantatte Institutions Act, 1909. Accounts as presented were recommended for payment. The report was adopted, as read.
The Secretary for Education wrote, declining to permit a lad, whom Mr J. C. Ewington had offered to take as an apprentice, to leave the Weraroa Training Farm —The letter was received.
A letter wa3 read from Mr A. H. Truebridge, Superintendent of the Charitable Aid Board, stating that a man who came from the Wairarapa, and was a charge upon this district, was desirous of leaving the Ohiro Home, with a view to starting as a boot-black in the City. The Superintendent considered the man's chances of success were slender, and stated that in the event of failure, he would be returned to the district from whence he came. —Vr Moss stated that the matter had already been before the Eketahuna County Council which was the body interested.--The matter was held over.
The Eketahuna County Council asked for a statement of accounts in respect to a family of children which was in receipt of relief. Ur J. K Frengley, District Health Officer, notified that he had visited the Masterton Hospital, and recommended certain improvements to the sanitary system. —lt was decided to refer the matter to the Masterton Committee.
Accounts amounting to £l9l 3s 2d were passed for payment; The Secretary of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board advised that, in future, the charge for patients admitted to the Dunedin Hospital from this district had been increased to.£l 15s per week. —lt was decided that copies of the letter be forwarded to the various Committees. Messrs G. C. Munro and Varnham and Rose, architects, offered their services in connection with the erection of the home for incurables at Grey town.—The communications were received. Messrs Varnham and Ro*e advised the Board that work at the new Greytown Hospital wai proceeding satisfactorily. The reports of the Masterton, Greytown and Pahiatua Committees were submitted and approved. On the motion of Mr Crewe, it was decided that copies of the Committee's reports be prepared by the Secretary and handed to members at each meeting. It was decided that, in future, all reports of sub-committees should be in writing, and signed by the Chairman of such Committee.
