PERSONAL.
Mr Robert Duthio, of the firm of DutJiie Bros., Dunedin, died on Monday at the age of sixty-two. His Lordship Bishop Wallis will hold a confirmation service in Masterton o:i Tuesday next, when there will be a large number of candidate!;. The Rev. A. Cameron, of Dunedin, has been nominated by the Auckland Presbytery for the position of Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. The Rev. C. Il- Olds, of Masterton, has received word from the Auckland College that he has been successful in passing the- term for the first section of his B.A. degree. Mr Tai Te '..au, cf was recently promoted by the synod of the Maori church to be Bishop of Wairarapa. Thirteen other members of the church have been confirmed as ministers of the church. The many friends in Masterton of Mr L. F. Ay son, of the Fisheries Department, who was for years curator of the Masterton fishponds, will learn with regret of the death of Mrs Ayson, which occurred on Monday, at the age of fifty-two years. Mr Harry Lawton, of the outdoor staff of the Pahiatua railway, has been transferred to Grey town. Prior to his departure he was presented with a handsome cruet and spoons from the staff. Mr J. Haining, of Wellington, succeeds Mr Lawton.
Mr J. Allan Thomson, one of the Rhodes scholars of New Zealand, who intended accompanying the Antarctic Expedition as Geologist with the Western party, and who is a son -of Mr G. M. Thomson, M.P., has informed Captain Scott that,, on account of ill-health, he will not be able to go with the expedition. Captain Scott is at present in communication with the Government on the subject of the appointment of someone to take Mr Thomson's place.
