MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usue.l monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday. Present—Crs. F. W. H. Rummer, chairman, C. Forsberg, H. J. Dagg, C. Churchill Jackson, B. Isakson, and J. E. Perry. A circular letter was received from the Chief Health Officer suggesting that appointment of Sanitary Inspector be left to the Board, provided the -assent of the local bodies is obtained to this arrangement.—lt appeared to be the general opinion of the Council that the scheme recommended by the Chief Health Officer was a desirable arrangement, as far as this district is concerned, but that it might be advisable to hear what might be advanced for or against the proposal at a conference of local authorities before coming to a decision. The chairman was accordingly appointed to represent the Council at such conference. Schedules of accrued thirds were forwarded by the Receiver of Land Revenue, who stated that no "thirds" were yet accrued from section 24, Block XIV., Tararua, which could be transferred to the Council, the: arrears of interest in respect of roading not being yet wiped off. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Premier intimating that he had received the clerk's letter with reference to the inequality existing in regard to the rating of small grazing runs, and stating "that the representations made are noted, and I will give the matter consideration." Mr J. H. Heckler wrote asking that a culvert at section 111), Block XIV., Mangaone, be lowered, and
directing attention to gorse on main road.—Two Councillors were appointed to inspect the culvert and report to next meeting.
Mr W. Nation wrote requesting metalling to be. done on Mahoe street; also repairs to Heyan's road. —The matter was left in Ci\ Isakson's hands to deal with as soon as the carts are available for the work. Mr D. Christie wrote drawing attention to repairs needed on Mangatainoka Valley road.---A. H. li'scott was directed to get some repairs done.
Only one tender was received for metalling contract on Mangaoranga road and declined, being much in excess of estimate.
The Clerk was instructed to notify Mr Gibbard that the Council will resume possession of Reserve No. 177 in six months, as it is neede:! for grazing the Council's horses; also to notify Mr T. Goodgame to remove firewwd from road.
Temporary repairs are to be effected to Mangaoranga road. Accounts amounting to £143 2s 8d were passed for payment.
