SERIOUS MOTOR ACCIDENT.
IN THE MANAWATU GORGE.
CAR FALLS A HUNDRED FEET
DRIVER INJURED

A rather serious accident occurred in the Manawatu Gorge this afternoon when a motor buggy went right over and landed in the river below. Luckily there was only the driver in the car, tut unfortunately he was rather badly injured. The accident happened while the express to Napier was passing through the Gorge, and several on the train witnessed the accident. A telephone message was se it from the Gorge station to Ashhui\-t and also to Wocdvile, but the Ashhimt contingent waa first on the scene.
The man in charge of the car was named T-iylor, and was employed by Messrs Barraud and Abraham, of Palmerstoh. He was taking the car from Carterton to Palrnerston. Those at the place easily saw that something inlist have gone wrong with the steering gear, for no effort had been made to negotiate the sharp corner The car went over the bank, a sheer drop of nearly one hundred feet.
Taylor managed to crawl on to the road, and when found was in a dazed condition, having a severe wound on his forehead. The injured man wai taken to Palrnerston. *
The car is now under water, and is tethered to the bank by a wire.
