AN EELING INDUSTRY.
GORE, Last Night
It is stated on good authority that steps are being taken to form • an ecling industry in New Zealand. A Gore and Mataura Ensign representative, in .an interview with Mr Wil-, Ham Buhmann, from Denmark, who has been for some time investigating the possibilities the Mataura River offers to such a project, received interesting information on the subject. Mr Buhmann stated:—"l have been iu the country nearly three years, in touch with the question of the ecling industry all the time, and I consider the industry will prove a commercial success, and my intention is to export eels in such large quantities that it must pay, to the Continent of Europe. My working basis is extensive contracts for importation, etc., are already fixed, and later local people will derive a constant benefit from the industry.
