It offers a premium to political dishonesty and cowardice. It saps the manhood of our legislators, and destroys the individuality of the best of our people. It is traditional, and that is all. The march of education, and science, and enlightenment is, relegating tradition ■•* the realms of superstitions, and supplanting it with utilitarianism and modernism. The party system is not even a necessary evil. Iu the hurly-burly of party politics men do things and say things which, under different conditions, they would disdain. Some day there will he a. change.
