IMPROVEMENT OF THE RACE.

The Eugenics Education Society of New Zealand has an important mission in training the public mind in the appreciation of those conditions which make for the improvement of the race. It is deplorable to think that in this enlightened country, with its almost free elementary and University education, there should exist an almost supreme ignorance concerning matters pertaining to heredity and parenthood in the human race, -.emarkable though it may appear, it is nevertheless a fact that the average citizen displays greater concern about the heredity of his sheep, his oxen, or his ass, than he does of ,tho propagation of human-kind in a• healthy form. As the Society well points out, "one of the greatest advances of the near future will be the recognition that education must more directly include preparation for the supreme civic duty of parenthood." Whether the existence of a false and disastrous prudery is the g2 - eatest obstacle to the imparting of knowledge concerning the functions of the body is questionable. There are other obstacles equally great. But there are none which' are insurmountable. No higher or nobler mission could be conceived than the improvement of the race morally, mentally, and physically. The Eugenics Society is, therefore, worthy of respect and support, and its influence will doubtless be felt upon the generations of the future.
