A pleasant function took place at Te Ore Ore on Saturday afternoon, when the Defence Force's new rifle range on Messrs Cameron Bros.' property was formally opened by Lieut.-Col. In a few well-chosen words Colonel Tate congratulated the 'local corps on having obtained such a well equipped range, and urged upon the men the importance of accurate shooting as a factor in their training. He also expressed his gratification at seeing the number of rifle clubmen present, and acknowledged the debt that was owed to rifle clubs for the encourage? ment they had given +o marksmanship. After firing the opening shot, a bull's eye, the Colonel declared therange open. Shooting was then indulged in at 200 and 500 yards. An adjournment was made for afternoon tea, and on behalf of the local corps Lieut. JtJrighting thanked the visitors for their attendance, and also expressed the thanks of the shooting members of the two corps to the Opaki Rifle Club for having extended to them the privileges of membership while the Defence Forces were without a range. He hoped that matches would be frequent between the riflemen, and assured the former of a hearty welcome whenever they elected to put in a day's Bhooting at Te Ore Ore.

Colonel Tate responded for the visitors, and concluded his remarks by proposing the toast of "Captains Robinson and Welch,'* a toast which was heartily honoured and as suitably responded to by the two officers. The best scores for the day were:
