DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondents.)

PAHIATUA. In connection with the visit of delegates to Pahiatua on Friday, to discuss the Makuri water-power scheme and inspect the river, arrangements have been made whereby visitors' will be enabled to return home the same day, a number of motor cars having been placed at the disposal of the Committee. A juvenile race on roller skates for boys under ten years of age, over a distance of half a mile, will take place in the Drill Hall to-morrow afternoon. For juvenile proficiency in the exhilarating pastime of roller skating, Pahiatua would be hard to beat anywhere, and it is expected that the youngsters competing in tomorrow's race will put up a creditable time record. The trustees of the Drill Hall have generously granted the use of the building for the purpose, and Mrs David Crewe has intimated her 'ntention of giving a handsome prize to the winner. . A local punter has had a good win over the recent Wellington meeting. He put twenty pounds on Don ( arlos and then planked the whole of his winnings on St Toney. A taem of local bowlers, consisting of Messrs J. u ughes, W. Ransom, W. Mcßratney, and W. Wakeman, skip, have challenged the holders of the Dixon Cup, Palmerston North, for the much-coveted trophy. The match will take place at Palmerston I North to morrow. The local team is i a particularly strong combination and should just about, annex the Cup. Tht concert to be given in the Olympic Theatre to-morrow evening by the Dresden Piano Company promises to be a big success. The pro- | gramme is a very attractive one, and ' no pains have been spared to secure the best possible talent. The entertainment is in aid of the District High School. 1
