MUNICIPAL BREAD.
It is interesting to note that the municipal bread factory of Budapest has now been working for about, a year. At its start the management created a revolution in the local baking trade by baking bread from the best materials under the best possible conditions, and distributing it to the public at prices which showed an immediate benefit to consumer of £IOO per day on the quantity issued. After some experience it was found that after providing for all possible charges the financial results were so favourable that the price of bread could be reduced. A few days ago, after careful investigation, the managing committee to make another reduction. The price of a loaf weighing just under is about 2jd for brown bread, nearly 2}d for halfbrown bread, and 3d for white bread. The local private bakers have lowered the prices and improv- J ed the quality of their products as a result of this competition.
